* Free Email of the Day š * Itās Time for Parental Controls on Parentsā Phones
Read on the Tuesday, April 14th radio program.
Dr. Laura, I just had lunch at a Culverās restaurant near where I live. I spent about 25 minutes dining alone. When I chose my table in the middle of the room, the table behind me was occupied by a little girl who looked to be about five years old and her father. They already had food on the table and were eating, but the father had his cell phone in his hand and was looking at it.
During the entire time I sat there, I heard only a few words exchanged between the two of them. When I say āa few,ā Iām not even sure it amounted to a full sentence that I heard the man say.
When I got up to leave, they were still there.
And the dad was still looking at his cell phone, not speaking to his daughter.
I didnāt think it would be well received if I said anything, so I didnāt.
So, if you choose to read this on the air, folks, I know ā because Iāve been there ā how quickly your children grow up. I also know that if youāre any kind of decent human being, you will have huge regrets.
Iām 76, so I didnāt have to compete with cell phones and internet distractions while raising our sons.
And I still have regrets. We all do. Parents are not perfect. But these cell-phone-addicted parents are not only ignoring their own children ā by the example they set, their children will one day ignore their own kids, and so on and so on⦠scooby-dooby-do!
