Is honesty the best policy?

When people ask, "Can you keep a secret?" My answer is always, "It depends on what it is." Some secrets should not be kept because they could endanger or hurtsomeone. When a listener wrote in to ask if she was obligated to share things with her husband who expected to be kept in the loop, my answer was, “No one is obligated to anything.” However, proceed with caution.
