Tanya knew she wasn’t showing her husband the compassion he needed when she wrote this email to me saying:
“My father died suddenly when I was just 27. He didn’t live to see my first wedding anniversary let alone my two children. Recently, his 87-year-old dad has been placed because he has Alzheimer’s and will probably die soon because his is in diapers and bed-ridden. My problem is, having lost my own dad so young, I am having trouble feeling empathy for my husband over his father’s imminent death. He has 20 years more with his dad than I did. How can I change my mindset?”
