Simple Yet So Powerful
Read on the Thursday, August 6th radio program.
Dear Dr. Laura - A little background: One of my children struggled with depression as a teenager and was on antidepressants for about 10 years. Eventually, they weaned off the medication and went on to do wonderfully for the next 20 years.
Then, during COVID, I received a heartbreaking phone call. Through tears, they told me they were depressed again and didn’t think they could keep going. But they also didn’t want to go back on antidepressants because they had hated being on them.
I remembered something you once said: “You can’t fix normal.”
I repeated those words to them. There was a long pause, and then, almost instantly, everything shifted. It was as though a weight had been lifted.
Such a simple statement, yet so profound.
Thank you for giving me those words when they were needed most.
Be well, and keep doing your thing.
From a very thankful mother
