The Most Important Thing I Ever Did
Read on the Tuesday, August 4th radio program.
The question was, “Am I a bad mom?”
The nurse said, “Of course not! You are having irrational ‘working mom’ guilt.”
When I saw that, I was honestly disgusted by how much society pressures mothers to believe they aren’t an absolute necessity in their children’s lives. We are taught that hired help is simply a fact of life and that the baby will be just fine without Mom all day.
I believe that’s a lie, and it’s wrong.
I stayed home with my two boys from the very first bout of morning sickness. Things were financially tight, but my husband and I knew that I absolutely needed to be home with them. The payoff from that decision is plain to see. My boys always knew they were my first priority, and they have never seen the inside of a daycare.
Many people told me I had done nothing with my life. They would ask me how it felt to have never accomplished anything.
But I did the most important thing a mom could ever do. I loved my children every single day. And I’ve been a girlfriend to my husband for 26 years! I think I’ve done a lot with my life!
Thank you for being there and standing in my corner when the haters wanted me to question my decision. You and your podcasts have gotten me through a lot of tough times.
Much love and admiration,
Jenni
