Thinking of Unhappy Moments
Read on the Thursday, May 28th radio program.
Dear Dr. Laura, I’ve heard that you counsel callers who struggle with blaming themselves for past events and beating themselves up over things that happened long ago.
This subject has really hit home for me. I find myself thinking about unhappy moments from long ago with my mother-in-law, who has been deceased for almost 20 years. I was young, selfish, and immature at the time. We both had lessons to learn, and eventually, many years later, we became friends. She was an alcoholic, and I had never been around anyone with that problem before.
I am going to consciously stop letting these negative thoughts creep into my thinking and cause me to feel guilty about something I can do nothing to change. It is an unnecessary burden to carry.
I wanted to thank you for the time you spend with callers and for helping them recognize faulty thinking and how useless and detrimental it is to beat oneself up.
Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
Ann
